UN Convention on the Rights of Persons With Disabilities:

This Convention was adopted by the UN General Assembly on 13th December, 2006 and was opened for signatures on 30 March, 2007. Till November, 10, 2009 as many as 143 countries have become signatories to this Convention.

The UNCRPD has 50 articles and is an important international treaty on the rights of persons with disabilities related to their life, human rights and fundamental freedoms. The provisions of this Convention cover many vital aspects and are expected to bring about a significant shift in paradigm with regard to the life-quality of the persons with disabilities.

Persons With Disabilities, (Equal OpOpportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act of 1995 (of India).

This Act came into force with effect from 1st January, 1996. It contains some important provisions relating to the education, employment and affirmative action pertaining to persons with disabilities in India. A number of significant initiatives have been taken in India after the enactment of this law.
